Ben's Teacher Feature - Meet Mrs Stacey Hoff!

I have to say that I LOVE that this next teacher was nominated by my friend Megan Neitzel - Meet Mrs. Stacey Hoff, first grade teacher at Munhall Elementary in St Charles IL. My daughter (and Ben’s triplet sister) Ava had Mrs Hoff this last year for first grade and I can vouch for and ditto what Megan said of her: Mrs. Hoff takes the time with all her students to be sure needs are met. With her reading specialist background, she knows how to help her students improve their skills and gain confidence. She takes time with parents too. She just really does what she can to make everyone feel special.

Mrs. Hoff has such a good and kind heart. She is always warm and caring and provides regular updates, videos and photos to show parents all the exciting things happening in her class. AND she came out with her son and supported our foundation Ben Smiles Memorial Foundation at an event last summer.

In her own words:

  1. How long have you been teaching?

I have been teaching for 15 years. I taught first and second grade for 4 years in East Aurora. After finishing my master’s degree in Literacy, I moved to teaching in St. Charles as a Reading Specialist. The last two years I have taught first grade in St. Charles. Working with primary students has been my focus and my joy. I love my work kiddos.

2. Why did you want to be a teacher?

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. Growing up I had classroom set up in my basement and would play school daily. My second grade teacher made learning fun. I remember putting on plays, writing books, and playing games. I would stay after school to help her. She is the reason I knew I had to become a teacher.

3. What do you love most about teaching? Or how rewarding is it?

My favorite thing about teaching is connecting with students and families. Building relationships is the most important thing I do and the greatest reward.

4. What is the hardest part about being a teacher?

The hardest part about being a teacher is saying goodbye to my kiddos at the end of year. For 9 months they are “my school kids” and will always be a part of my heart. I miss them even on the weekends and always worry about them!

5. Thank you Mrs. Hoff. Now tell us a little about yourself – where are you from? Are you married with children? Do you have pets?

I grew up in Wheaton, Illinois. I went to college at Ball State and then came back home to teach. I have been married to my husband, Andy, for 14 years. We have two boys, Tyler who is 9 and Cooper who is 6. We have two dogs, Molly and Arthur,

6. What do you like to do for fun?

Fun?!?! I am a teacher and a mom, who has time for fun? I love to spend time with my boys, watch sports, and read. I like taking walks, spending time with friends, listening to live music, and going shopping.

YAY for Mrs. Hoff. And thank you for the very important work that you do.
