At our first IEP meeting, we took Benjamin with us because of course, I was the only one I trusted to care for him. He was fragile and complicated, and I was protective.

I developed the first Ben’s Adventures book knowing that I wanted to do additional books and turn it into a series. I didn’t want Ben to have only one adventure! When I started thinking about this new book back in the fall, I didn’t know that I would plan a Kickstarter. In fact, I just thought I would choose to pay out of pocket for the printing which is what I did for the first book.

When I started thinking about developing a children’s book series late 2017, I jotted down a list of possible stories and where I thought it might go. And I knew I wanted it to reflect and pull from our own experiences as a family and Ben’s personal experiences, honoring him and his time here.

Yesterday I received a few thank-yous in the mail from students at the local high school after a visit to their childhood education classes recently. When I was first invited, I accepted quickly but then thought to myself, “what will I talk about with high school students?”
